6. The Four Influences Framework

  • A framework that highlights the key factors influencing IHRM:
    1. Country of Origin (Host Country):
      • Example: A US-based company operating in China will be influenced by Chinese labor laws, cultural norms, and economic conditions.
    2. Country of Origin (Parent Country):
      • Example: The parent company's values, culture, and HR practices will influence how it operates in other countries. A US-based company may prioritize certain management styles or employee benefits that are common in the US.
    3. Country of Third Country Nationals (TCNs):
      • Example: If a US company hires a British employee to work in China, the British employee's cultural background and expectations will influence their work experience and performance.
    4. International Influences:
      • Examples: Globalization, technological advancements, international trade agreements, and global competition all shape the context of IHRM.
